Construction begins on the world’s largest offshore wind farm

The team building Dogger Bank Wind Farm has officially marked the start of its offshore construction work with the installation of the first length of high voltage DC (HVDC) export cable off the Yorkshire coast.

Tier one supplier NKT is leading the work to install the Dogger Bank A nearshore cable, that will connect the first phase of the windfarm more than 130km (81 miles) off the coast to a landfall point at Ulrome, in East Riding of Yorkshire.

The 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm when completed in 2026. A joint venture project between SSE Renewables (40%), Equinor (40%) and Eni Plenitude (20%), SSE Renewables is leading the development and construction of Dogger Bank Wind Farm. Equinor will be lead operator of the wind farm on completion for its expected operational life of around 35 years.
